Bashir Ahmad, President Muhammadu Buhari's former Personal Assistant on New Media, has been named Special Assistant to the President on Digital Communications.

According to reports, the appointment was confirmed by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Boss Mustapha, in a letter of appointment addressed to Ahmad dated July 20, 2022.

Mustapha stated in the letter obtained by NAN on Sunday in Abuja that his appointment began on July 19, 2022.

Ahmad resigned from his previous position as Personal Assistant to the President in accordance with the presidential directive urging all political office holders who wish to run for elective office to resign.

The presidential media aide failed to secure an All Progressives Congress ticket in the party's primaries for Gaya, Ajingi, and Owerri.

Ahmad had expressed concern about the way the party's primary was conducted, claiming that it was rife with fraud.

According to NAN, the presidential social media handler is believed to be the only presidential aide'recalled' by the president since the conclusion of the APC primaries.

Some social commentators who spoke to NAN about the promotion of the media aide to the position of Special Assistant said Ahmad had successfully handled the social media space as Personal Assistant prior to his resignation.
