Resting Places Of Some Popular Nigerians Who Fought For The Independence Of Nigeria

 They didn't receive Nigeria's independence on a silver platter. To ensure the nation's independence from its colonial oppressors, some nationalists made unimaginable sacrifices.

Even though some of these individuals have long since passed away, our correspondents paid respect to their graves during the 60th anniversary of the country's independence in order to remember them and the contributions they made to the growth of the country.

Obafemi Awolowo

The late Chief Obafemi Awolowo's mausoleum, popularly referred to as Awo's Mausoleum, is located in Ikenne, Ogun State, where he lived before his death.

Sokoto's Sarduana

Contrary to popular belief, the late premier's remains were not interred at the Arewa House in Kaduna, Zaria, or Sokoto as Saturday PUNCH reported. Instead, they were interred at The Sultan House in Ungwar Sarki, Kaduna State.

Nnamdi Azikiwe 

Nnamdi Azikiwe was born in 1904 and died in 1996. He was also known as Zik and the Owelle of Onitsha. He was produced in Zungeru, Niger State.

He was a Nigerian politician and political figure who served as Nigeria's first president from 1963 to 1966. He is credited with being one of the independence of the country's architects.

The remains of the late Nnamdi Azikiwe are interred in his tomb.
